By making a booking, attending the site, checking in, playing the course, hiring equipment, using the clubhouse or using any Spofforth Golf facility, you agree to follow these Booking Terms and Course Rules.
These terms should be read alongside our Privacy Policy and any additional rules, notices or instructions displayed on site or provided at the time of booking.
1. Bookings
All tee times must be booked and paid for in accordance with the booking process in use at the time.
Customers are responsible for checking that the date, time, number of players, booking type and booking details are correct before completing a booking.
A booking is valid only for the date, time, number of players and service booked. A booking for one date or time cannot be used on another date or time unless Spofforth Golf has agreed this in advance.
Bookings are not transferable.
Only the players included in the booking may play. Additional players must be declared and paid for before going onto the course.
2. Tee times and arrival
Customers must arrive in good time before their booked tee time and must check in at the clubhouse before play.
Tee times are generally allocated at 10 minute intervals. Customers must be ready to play at their allocated tee time and must follow staff instructions regarding start times, tee allocation, pace of play, course routing and any temporary course arrangements.
Late arrival may result in a delayed start, reduced round, loss of tee time or refusal of play, depending on course availability and operational requirements.
3. Your tee time is your responsibility
If you miss your tee time, decide not to play, book the wrong date or time, arrive late, fail to attend, or leave because the weather is not to your liking, your green fee is not automatically refunded.
If there is a genuine issue with your booking, please contact management at getintouch@spofforthgolf.uk.
Spofforth Golf is not obliged to offer a rearranged tee time or other goodwill arrangement unless required by law .
4. Cancellations, refunds and rescheduling
Our cancellation, refund and rescheduling policy applies as shown at the time of booking.
Unless otherwise stated, customers may cancel or reschedule a booking up to 24 hours before the booked tee time.
Cancellations, refund requests or rescheduling requests made less than 24 hours before the booked tee time will be refused.
Missed tee times, no-shows and customer booking errors do not automatically entitle customers to a refund, transfer or replacement tee time.
Where a refund is approved, it will normally be returned to the original payment method.
Spofforth Golf reserves the right to refuse refund, cancellation or rescheduling requests where a customer has failed to attend, booked the wrong date or time, breached course rules, behaved inappropriately, failed to follow staff instructions, or been removed from the course.
5. Weather and course closures
Golf is an outdoor activity and weather conditions may change.
Rain, drizzle, showers, wind, dark clouds and general Yorkshire weather do not automatically close the course.
The course is open unless Spofforth Golf says otherwise. The course only closes when the Greenkeeper and Management decide that closure, delay, suspension or restriction is necessary.
Unless the course is closed by Spofforth Golf, bookings remain subject to the normal cancellation, refund and rescheduling policy.
Spofforth Golf may close the course, delay play, suspend play, restrict access or alter the course layout where we consider it necessary for safety, weather, course condition, maintenance, staffing, operational, insurance or legal reasons.
If Spofforth Golf closes the course and prevents a booking from going ahead, we will consider an appropriate remedy, which may include a rearranged tee time, credit or refund depending on the circumstances.
Poor weather, rain, wind, cold conditions or personal preference not to play do not automatically entitle customers to a refund or replacement tee time unless the course has been closed by Spofforth Golf or we are otherwise required by law to provide one.
6. No clubs, no golf
Every golfer must have their own set of golf clubs and their own golf bag.
Sharing clubs or sharing a bag between players is not permitted.
This rule exists for safety, pace of play, course management and prevention of unpaid play.
Players who do not have suitable equipment may be required to hire equipment, purchase equipment where available, leave the course, or refrain from playing.
Loose clubs carried without a proper bag may be refused at our discretion.
Club hire may be available. Please ask in the clubhouse before heading to the first tee.
7. Golfers only
For safety, pace of play, insurance, course management and fair-use reasons, walkers, spectators and non-playing companions are not permitted on the course unless Spofforth Golf has expressly agreed otherwise.
This rule applies even where the person says they do not intend to play.
Children, juniors and non-playing visitors must not accompany players onto the course unless Spofforth Golf has given permission.
Dogs are not permitted on the course unless Spofforth Golf has expressly agreed otherwise or where access is required by law, such as in the case of assistance dogs.
8. Number of players and unpaid play
Only the players included in the booking may play.
Additional players must be declared and paid for before going onto the course.
Any person who plays without paying may be removed from the course and may be banned from future bookings.
Where a customer attempts to allow an unpaid person to play, or misrepresents whether a person intends to play, Spofforth Golf may remove the party from the course, refuse future bookings and retain any green fees already paid, unless a refund is required by law.
9. Hire equipment
Hire equipment remains the property of Spofforth Golf.
Customers are responsible for looking after all hire equipment issued to them.
Hire equipment must not be abandoned, hidden, misused, damaged, removed from the site or left unattended other than in normal use.
All hire equipment must be returned to the clubhouse immediately after use.
Customers may be charged for loss, damage, misuse or failure to return hire equipment.
Misuse of hire equipment may result in removal from the course, refusal of future bookings or a ban.
10. Pace of play and golf etiquette
All players must maintain a reasonable pace of play and follow normal golf etiquette.
Tee times are generally allocated at 10 minute intervals. Players must therefore be aware of other golfers, keep play moving and filter in sensibly on the relevant tees.
Players must not delay other groups, play in a dangerous manner, walk the wrong way down active fairways, ignore course routing, jump queues, interfere with other players, or behave in a way that disrupts the course.
Players must allow faster groups through where appropriate and must follow staff instructions about pace of play, course flow, tee allocation and routing.
Slow play, queue-jumping, arguing and general nonsense help nobody and may result in staff intervention.
11. Safety
Golf involves obvious risks, including risks from golf balls, clubs, uneven ground, slopes, water, trees, wildlife, weather, machinery, buggies and other players.
All players and visitors must take reasonable care for their own safety and the safety of others.
Players must not play a shot when it is unsafe to do so.
Players must shout “fore” or give an appropriate warning if a ball may endanger another person.
Players must follow all signs, roped areas, staff instructions, temporary rules, course maps and course safety notices.
Players must not enter closed, restricted, maintenance or out-of-bounds areas.
Spofforth Golf may stop, delay or remove any person from play where we consider their conduct unsafe or inappropriate.
12. Children and juniors
Children and juniors must be supervised appropriately.
A responsible adult must ensure that children and juniors follow course rules, safety instructions and staff directions.
Spofforth Golf may refuse or restrict access where we consider that a child, junior or accompanying adult is not able or willing to follow safety rules.
Children, juniors and non-playing visitors are not permitted to walk the course unless Spofforth Golf has expressly agreed otherwise.
13. Course closing times
Customers must ensure they leave the course before the advertised course closing time.
Seasonal closing times may vary. Unless otherwise stated, golfers must clear the course half an hour before the gates automatically lock. This timing is advised so as to not run the risk of becoming locked in upon which there is a £50 call-out charge for sending staff out to release trapped patrons.
Customers are responsible for allowing enough time to complete their round and leave before the course closes.
Please plan your round properly and do not start a late adventure you cannot finish.
Spofforth Golf may require players to leave the course where there is not enough time to complete the round safely before closure.
14. Gate closure and call-out charge
The gates lock automatically.
Unless otherwise stated, the gates lock at the time stated on the booking form page and on signs displayed within the Clubhouse.
Customers are responsible for leaving the site before the gates lock.
If a customer remains on site after the gates have locked and staff are required to attend to release them, a £50 call-out charge may apply.
Failure to leave before gate closure may also result in refusal of future bookings or a ban.
15. Driving range
The driving range is closed until further notice.
Customers must not enter, use, practise on, retrieve balls from, investigate, wander onto, or otherwise access the driving range unless Spofforth Golf has expressly authorised this.
The driving range is not a bonus feature.
Unauthorised use of the driving range may result in removal from the premises, refusal of future bookings or a ban.
16. Golf buggies and vehicles
Only Spofforth Golf buggies are allowed on the course unless Spofforth Golf has given prior approval.
Personal buggies, mobility vehicles, scooters, ride-on vehicles, adapted vehicles, or other wheeled contraptions are not permitted on the course without prior approval from Spofforth Golf.
Spofforth buggies may be available to hire. Please ask in the clubhouse for rental terms.
Buggy users must follow all buggy rules, staff instructions, route restrictions and safety directions.
Buggies must be driven responsibly and must not be used in a way that endangers people, property, the course or wildlife.
Spofforth Golf may refuse buggy hire or stop buggy use where we consider it unsafe or inappropriate.
Separate buggy hire terms may also apply.
17. Outside food and drink
Outside food and drink must not be consumed in the clubhouse unless Spofforth Golf has expressly agreed otherwise.
Customers who bring or consume outside food or drink in the clubhouse may be asked to stop, leave the clubhouse, or leave the premises.
This rule does not prevent customers from bringing water or reasonable refreshments for personal use on the course, provided they are consumed responsibly and all litter is taken away or placed in bins.
18. Alcohol, drugs and disorder
Customers must not attend the site or play while unfit to do so through alcohol, drugs, illness, injury or any other condition that may affect safety.
Spofforth Golf may refuse service or remove any person who appears intoxicated, impaired, disorderly, unsafe or unable to follow course rules.
Illegal drugs are not permitted on site.
19. Behaviour towards staff and other visitors
All customers and visitors must treat staff, owners, contractors, players and other visitors with courtesy and respect.
Abuse, threats, intimidation, harassment, discrimination, aggressive behaviour, persistent unreasonable conduct, offensive language, damage, theft, dishonesty or refusal to follow reasonable staff instructions will not be tolerated.
Spofforth Golf reserves the right to refuse service, remove a person from the premises, cancel a booking, refuse future bookings or impose a ban where we consider a person’s conduct inappropriate, unsafe, dishonest, abusive or disruptive.
Clubhouse staff are not required to tolerate abusive, intimidating, persistent or unreasonable complaints. Complaints should be made calmly and, where requested, in writing.
20. Refusal of service and bans
Spofforth Golf is private property.
We reserve the right to refuse entry, refuse service, remove any person from the site, cancel a booking, refuse future bookings or ban any person where we consider it necessary for safety, staff welfare, customer welfare, course management, protection of property, prevention of disorder, enforcement of these rules or protection of the business.
If permission to remain on site is withdrawn, the person must leave immediately and must not return unless Spofforth Golf gives written permission.
Any refund or other remedy following removal, refusal of service or a ban will be at Spofforth Golf’s discretion unless required by law.
21. Damage, theft and misuse of property
Customers must not damage, remove, misuse or interfere with Spofforth Golf property, hire equipment, signs, fixtures, fittings, course features, machinery, vehicles, wildlife, trees, fences, gates or other customers’ property.
Customers may be charged for loss, damage, theft, misuse or additional costs caused by their conduct.
Incidents may be reported to the police, insurers or other relevant authorities where appropriate.
22. Personal property
Customers are responsible for their own personal property, including golf clubs, bags, phones, wallets, clothing, vehicles and valuables.
Spofforth Golf is not responsible for loss, theft or damage to personal property unless caused by our negligence or breach of legal duty.
23. Course condition and maintenance
The course is an outdoor environment and conditions vary.
Grass length, ground conditions, drainage, temporary greens, temporary tees, maintenance work, wildlife activity, fallen leaves, weather effects and other course conditions may change from day to day.
Spofforth Golf may carry out maintenance, repairs, closures, restrictions or course changes at any time.
No refund or discount will be due solely because course conditions differ from a customer’s expectation, unless required by law.
24. CCTV and audio recording
CCTV and audio recording operate in and around the clubhouse and selected areas of Spofforth Golf.
Recording is used for the safety and security of staff, visitors and property; prevention and investigation of incidents, complaints, abuse, threats, theft, damage and disputes; staff welfare; course management; and protection of the lawful interests of the business.
Recordings are not used for casual monitoring.
Please see our Privacy Policy for full details about how CCTV, audio recordings and other personal information are used.
25. Privacy
We use personal information in accordance with our Privacy Policy.
The Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, why we use it, how long we keep it, when it may be shared, and the rights individuals have under data protection law.
26. Complaints
If you have a complaint, please contact us in writing at:
Please include your name, contact details, booking details where relevant, date of visit, and a clear summary of the issue.
We may ask for complaints to be handled in writing where this is necessary to keep a clear and accurate record.
Clubhouse staff may not be authorised to resolve complaints, refunds, bans, disputes or legal matters.
Customers must not direct abusive, intimidating, persistent or unreasonable complaints at clubhouse staff.
27. Liability
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, fraudulent misrepresentation, or any liability that cannot legally be excluded or limited.
Subject to that, Spofforth Golf will not be responsible for losses that are not foreseeable, losses caused by a customer’s breach of these rules, losses caused by failure to follow staff instructions, losses caused by unsafe or inappropriate conduct, or business losses suffered by consumers.
Customers are responsible for their own conduct and for any loss, damage or injury they cause to Spofforth Golf, staff, visitors, players, property or equipment.
28. Changes to these terms
Spofforth Golf may update these Booking Terms and Course Rules from time to time.
The latest version will be published on our website.
The terms in force at the time of booking will usually apply to that booking, unless a change is required for safety, legal, regulatory, insurance or operational reasons.
